Land Acknowledgement

Indigenous peoples have been recognizing and honouring the land since they beginning of time.  As they moved across the land into other territories they would stop and honour other tribal lands and thank them for the opportunity to visit. They would share where they came from , their family history and offer gratitude for where they were. I am a descendant of a Scottish Home Child originating in the Scottish Lowlands. I was Born in High River, I am honoured to be a guest on treaty 7 home of the Blackfoot Nation and Métis districts 5/6. I come from a long line of strong female healers my  great granny was a mid wife and a healer, my granny was a nurse and a healer, as a social worker I see my role as a healer in the community and my daughters are nurses healers carrying on the legacy.  I want to recognize the role of social workers and the impact they had on colonialism within the Indigenous peoples of Canada. This is why I identify as a healer. I work to heal both the community and the land I live on and am thankful to be here today
